Better Off Dead

from The Wilson Thrills by The Wilson Thrills

about

Musically this song is influenced by a band I used to listen to when I began driving, Alkaline Trio. I wrote a song inspired by young summers driving around listening to Alkaline Trio and getting my heart broken. At the same time I was really into a poem by T.S. Eliot called The Waste Land.

The lyrics are taken from the poem and tweaked a little bit. Overall the song is about a guy and a girl who are drawn to each other. They start a relationship even though both are aware that it will eventually end.

lyrics

Lyrics based off The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot

Last night I saw a fortune teller
Asked her if things are looking any better
Take one last look at those wicked cards
and send me off with your regards

And now I'm drowning like a sailor
In sea of love and favors
Yeah I've got those pearls for eyes
Because I fell for you and your disguise

So hurry up please, say good night
We're out of luck, and out of sight

When time is running out and our hearts start failing
I can hear you say "we were better off, better off dead"
When my mind falls apart and our lives keep changing
Will you hear me scream "we were better off, better off dead"

She hides her sent behind perfumes
Leaving cupid and the Devil confused
We were left alone in our parents home
Where dead men lost their bones

When time is running out and our hearts start failing
I can hear you say "we were better off, better off dead"
When my mind falls apart and our lives keep changing
Will you hear me scream "we were better off, better off dead"

about

The Wilson Thrills Birmingham, Alabama

5-piece rock band from Birmingham, AL. Their style of music is heavily based in punk rock, but due to a college education in music, it’s not surprising for songs to get a little complicated while staying under the 3 miin mark.
